Meet Maya Ellison
A solo grooming studio in Portland, Oregon built on unhurried appointments and dogs who leave calmer than they arrived.
Eleven years, one dog at a time
Maya started grooming in a busy Portland salon where dogs waited in crates for hours. She opened Maya’s Pet Grooming to do the opposite: one appointment at a time, no kennels, and enough time for a nervous dog to take a breath.
That only works if the schedule is honest. A doodle that needs four hours can't be squeezed into a two-hour slot, and a lapsed rabies record can't be discovered at the door. So Maya’s Pet Grooming does the arithmetic and the paperwork — and Maya does the grooming.
She grooms Tuesday through Saturday out of a small studio on Hawthorne, with a coffee shop next door and a very opinionated shop cat named Biscotti.
