How long does a full dog groom take?

Anywhere from 90 minutes to over four hours. Here's exactly what decides your dog's appointment length.

A freshly groomed dog after a full groom

"How long will it take?" is the question I hear most. The honest answer depends on the dog, and Maya’s Pet Grooming works it out the same way I would.

What goes into the estimate

  • The service: each has a base time for a small dog in good condition.
  • Size: medium dogs take about 1.3× the base time, large dogs about 1.6×.
  • Coat condition: tangles and mats add time.
  • Temperament: nervous and reactive dogs get extra, unhurried time.

Rounded up, never squeezed

The total is rounded up to the next 15 minutes, and a short cleaning break is kept between dogs. Maya’s Pet Grooming then only offers start times where the whole appointment fits before lunch or closing. You'll never be offered a time that can't really work.

An example

A 28 kg doodle with a tangled coat and a nervous temperament needs a lot more time than a calm 8 kg terrier with a maintained coat. That's why they don't get the same slot, and why you see the full breakdown before choosing a time.
